Intro: When The First Stroller Stops Working
Since August 2024, we have been using our first cat stroller for Keanu and Blossom. At the time, they were only about 3 and 4 months old, so the stroller worked well for our tiny adventure cats.
For the next year and a half, it gave us a simple way to get outside, take short walks, and entertain them throughout the week.
Then came Suki.
Since January 2026, we started bringing Suki along too. At first, it worked well enough. But now we have two new problems: we have 3 cats, and all 3 cats are getting bigger.
The one stroller doesn’t fit our cats together anymore. We either have to take multiple walks (and cycle them) or skip stroller walks and do car-based trips instead.
Now our goal is to find a stroller or combination of them that fits our cats, space, and trips!

The Real Question: What Stroller Fits My Cats?
When we first got Keanu and Blossom, at first we were wondering:
“What cat stroller should I buy?”
After 1 1/2 years of owning a stroller, now we are asking:
“What cat stroller fits my cats and how I actually use it?”
The biggest things to consider are:
- Number of cats
- Cat size or future size
- Available stroller size
- Trip type
When You Need to Upgrade
When we started bringing Suki in the same stroller as Keanu and Blossom, the outings were fine at first. But over time, we started noticing a few little warning signs.
First, the cats started to feel cramped. With all three cats in the stroller, they had to shift around and move places until everyone found a comfortable spot.
Second, Keanu could not always sit upright. Our current carrier is tallest in the middle, so if he wanted to sit up, he had to step over his sisters to get there.
Third, longer outings became less comfortable. After a longer walk, Keanu likes to change position and stretch his legs. But with three cats inside, that often meant stepping on or over Blossom and Suki.
How Cat Strollers Are Designed
Cat strollers can look similar, but they fall into several categories.

By Function
1-in-1 collapsible strollers are stroller-only designs. They usually fold flat for storage after use.
3-in-1 detachable strollers usually work as a stroller, removable carrier, and car seat.
5-in-1 convertible strollers are more travel-focused. These can include stroller mode, carrier mode, car seat mode, backpack mode, and roller luggage mode.
By Capacity
Cat strollers can also be grouped by size:
- Small
- Standard
- Medium-large / tall
- Large
Large strollers can also split into two important styles: wagon-style shared space and double/twin strollers with separate compartments.
Deciding – Based on Number of Cats and Size
This chart is to help decide the size of stroller based on the size and # of cats.
One small kitten may only need a small collapsible stroller for short neighborhood walks. Two average-sized cats may need a standard 3-in-1 stroller if you want to use it for both walks and car trips.
Three cats, especially if one is larger, may need a large stroller with shared space. But if your cats do not love being close together, a double stroller with separate compartments may be a better fit.
For the 3+ large breed cats, you could use a large stroller, but we would still recommend multiple strollers at that point.
| Cats/Size | Kitten/Small | Regular Cat | Large Breed (14+ lb) |
| 1 Cat | Small | Standard | Tall |
| 2 Cats | Standard | Tall | Large |
| 3 Cats | Large | Large | – |
*4 Capacity Sizes: Small, Standard, Tall, Large
Deciding – Travel Type
From our essential cat travel series, one big lesson is that the stroller should match the type of trip you take.
For casual neighborhood walks, a simple stroller may be enough. For car rides, park visits, or vet trips, a 3-in-1 detachable stroller may be more useful. For longer travel days, a 5-in-1 convertible option may be worth considering.

Travel Type -> Recommended Function
| Travel Type | What It Means | Recommended Function |
| Easy | Short stroller rides without taking the cat out | 1-in-1 (Collapsible) |
| Park Hangout | Stroller rides plus relaxing somewhere with the stroller open | 1-in-1 or 3-in-1 |
| Day Trip | Combination of car rides, stroller use, and longer outings | 3-in-1 or 5-in-1 |
Quick Buying Examples (Scenarios)
Here are a few common examples that can help make the decision easier.
Example 1: One Kitten + Short Trips
One cat parent has a new kitten and wants to get them used to stroller outings around the neighborhood.
Recommendation: Small 1-in-1 style stroller
Cats x Size -> Recommended Capacity (Stroller Size)
Example 2: Two Normal-Sized Cats + Travel
Another cat parent has two smaller or normal-sized cats around 10 lbs each. They want to take them on car rides and push them to the park.
Recommendation: Standard 3-in-1 stroller
Example 3: Three Cats + Stroller Only
A third cat parent has three cats of different sizes: maybe 15 lbs, 8 lbs, and 9 lbs. Sound familiar?
They mostly want something for short and long neighborhood walks.
Recommendation: Large 1-in-1 wagon-style stroller
Example 4: Two Cats That Do Not Get Along
The last cat parent has two cats around 12 lbs each, but they do not love sharing the same stroller space.
Recommendation: Large 3-in-1 double stroller
Deciding – Size Reference
When shopping, stroller size can be confusing. Product listings use different measurements, and not every brand explains interior space clearly.
For our own shopping process, we grouped stroller sizes into broad capacity categories: small, standard, medium-large/tall, and large.
This is not a formal average of every stroller online. It is more of a practical size reference based on what we saw while comparing current stroller designs.
| Capacity Tier | Approximate Dimensions | Usage |
| Small | ~12” × 20” | Best for 1 kitten or small cat |
| Standard | ~14” × 24” | Comfortable for 1 regular-sized cat |
| Tall (Standard +) | Similar width/length as standard, but 20”+ interior height | Better airflow and upright sitting room |
| Large | ~20” × 30”+ with 20”+ height | Best for 2–3 cats or large breeds |
Wagon vs. Double/Twin Cat Stroller
Wagon-style strollers and double strollers are both large options, but they solve different problems.
A wagon-style stroller gives cats one larger shared space. This can work well if your cats like being together and you mainly want room to stretch out.
A double stroller usually gives cats separate compartments. This can be better if your cats need personal space, do not get along well, or have different comfort levels outside.
This would be important if someone (like us) is considering a larger size
| Layout Type | Description |
| Wagon | Shared open interior space |
| Double | Separate compartments for each cat |

Final Takeaway
Overall, there is not one best cat stroller.
There is only the stroller that fits your cats, your space, and your trip style.
Our first stroller was a great starting point. It helped us get Keanu and Blossom outside when they were tiny. But now that we have three growing cats, our stroller needs have changed.
